I have a feeling that things like this is why a fair number of female gamers keep it under wraps - Not all of them want us dribbling at them (Although, it does provide a really good distraction).

There was another thread recently (honestly can't remember if it was here or dA) about girls and games and several people mentioned that the most agreed upon statistic is that just over 50% of online gamers are of the female variety. Of course, this probably includes game sites like Yahoo! Games.

So here's my question: Why separate girls out? Did anyone ever stop to think that that's why so many girls avoid mentioning their gender? I want to play and have fun, not be oggled over. I don't want my bad days attributed to "that time of the month" (I don't know about within the various gaming communities that this happens, but it has happened on tech/Linux mailing lists).

That's just my two cents.

I'm not here to help turn the girls (including myself) who game into some sort of object. I have a feeling that most girls who game are not the kind of attention whore that would agree to that sort of thing. Gamer girl does not equal trend/attention whore, for the most part.

Also, this is 2008. This whole notion that girls don't game/watch guy shows/read comics is old fashioned. I know more girls who game than I know those who don't. In fact, I only know one woman who doesn't game, but she thinks Indiana Jones is dumb so she doesn't count. My MOTHER even games. And no she isn't posing for any Napalm Girl thing, so don't ask.

I'd say that we should have a Hot Guys of Gaming pinup for all us gamer chicks...but let's face it. We've see gamer guys...and there's nothing hot about them. Between the parallel stripes of Cheeto/Dorito dust on their shirts and thighs, the old dribbles of Mountain Dew stains on their chins, and the permanent depression of the analog stick in their thumbs? Oooh, baby, that's NOT what I'd call sexy.

So to compensate for this lack of attractiveness in other general areas, I say all you boys pull out your wanks and take a photo. Post it here. I'm sure that Spot and the crew will GLADLY allow the [img] tag for this debacle. Once all the pictures are posted, I and the rest of the girls can come by, and post our thoughts about each "pinup."

If you're offended by this post...GOOD. You should be. You should also be ashamed of yourselves for even starting/continuing this thread. First off, do we want this to be the sort of community that has to rely on cheap sex adverts, however "non-nakie" they might be? No. This is neither G4, nor Spike TV.

The last thing that ANY of us -- bagel or sausage or somewhere in between -- need is another media source causing more stigma about our looks.

How about instead of a girl of the month, we have a MEMBER of the month? Someone chosen for their contributions to the community, someone -- male or female or somewhere in between -- who embodies the community spirit, the gamer spirit, and goes above and beyond to make this place BETTER, rather than slinging it into the gutter. Give them a one-month sub or something, just to show that we care and, hey, we appreciate their efforts.
