I have always wanted to get involved with a Vampire group. Just never seemed to have the time, or know the right people when I did.
I have played all the video games however, and read surprisingly a lot of the available material, for not being a player.
Mmmm Vampire goodness! Someday perhaps I will be able to.

In my senior year of high school, I fell in with a Vampire crowd. Actually it was a D&D/Vampire/Werewolf crowd. Anyways, the guy who told our stories found out about a warehouse near Delaware Ave. in Philly where a bunch of people get together to LARP. Specifically Vampire: the Masquerade. 3 Floors of LARPers. It was really something to see. Get in costume, grab your dicebag and head on down. $10 at the door lets you in. At the top floor were your hardcorest players and hardcorness faded as you went down to the first floor. We played on the first floor. Most of the time we would create a whole bunch of characters before we went. Then we would make a gang of low level characters and pick fights (a.k.a. roll attack dice) against other gangs and just have a load of fun.
The warehouse was bought by a couple that had played Vampire since its release to the shelves. Hundreds of people would come and pay $10 to play Vampire in their warehouse. They recuped expenses real fast and made a good profit. As far as I know, the place is gone. But, that's my best LARPing story.

I had her as a cross between something out of an Anne Rice novel coupled with the character Sonja Blue from the Nancy Collins books.
A badass vampire chick that made her living slaying other vampires and the like...ftw. :>

Pity no one has the time to do things like that anymore.
With the right group, the storytelling can be rather fun.

I started in Red Dragon Inn then moved to the user made Taverns & areas whih I met alot of weird & nice people.
Hell there were as many Guilds there as you see on a WoW server & just as crazy. I ran D.I.E. with a fellow name Goramag back in the day. I miss him.
Heck I still have all my info from back then. I have 3 folders for 3 char.s and all the guild info. I don't know why i have these things but it's nice to reread them.
I noticed I totally such at typing back then but I don't think too many people cared.

I tended to stay away from Vamps alot due to the drama from people with that type of RP. They always had this issues of never honoring a kill. You die you need a new name but they'd just come back... some how stronger & more annoying.

I know Vamps got more snooty when that Vampire game came out. Then they wouldn't honor any dice other then their own. When that wasn't bad, new player would follow thier rules or make theirs own up & every on seemed to be god mode sept the old players. I had to stop because it was just getting silly. More so when the Gor players started poping up & that crap is just nuts & shouldn't be allowed near kids.

To me, it's just one big game..although there are other benefits to it that extend far beyond that.
Big business is starting to use it for advertising and such. Some companies are using it to conduct "interviews" with potential employees that may be in other states or countries.
It's getting fairly huge.

Sure the idea of dressing up is cool but some people shouldn't be wearing a low cut dress. I'm sorry but I draw the line right there. I draw the line even sooner on men dressing sexy when you know they shouldn't of even been allowed to leave the store with those leather pants. They shouldn't even make them in that size. If your too big to wear shoes, you don't need those pants.

Personally I really dug vampire 1st ed, on the old WoD.
Mostly for the same reasons I like hunter. There was more scope for the Gm to just make things up. By the time they hit 2nd ed, they made the sabbat a playable faction (mistake in my opinion) and cowed to players crying for disc listings from 6-10.
I find the best vampire games to be run like any /punk setting. You dont win. you just don't die quite as far, each time around.

I've been playing in and running online campaigns for more than 10 years now, and I have found that -- in general (there are always exceptions to every rule) -- players in online campaigns tend to be more creative in solving in-game problems, more attentive to what's going on (being able to read it as opposed to trying to listen to every single thing being said) and show better regular attendance (since they don't have to worry about things like gas prices and babysitters, etc.) than standard tabletop players and ESPECIALLY over LARPers.
I've had online games that have run for, literally, years. But, like with all interactions, it requires the right mix of players and Storyteller/DM; it's always the people involved that make or break any gaming group.
One of the problems I've noticed that many new online runners encounter is they think that because online chat space is -- for all intents and purposes -- infinite (limitless), then they have the potential for an unlilmited number of players where, if they were running a tabletop game, they can only accomodate the number of people who can comfortably sit in their living room or other gaming space. This is simply not the case. It's been proven over and over again -- both online and in person -- that a group that is larger than 4-6 active players is simply too much for even experienced runners to deal with.
Just my thoughts.

I find that an online medium just takes far too long, and to be honest, I prefer TT combat. It flows so much more nicely and its a snappier delivery medium. Average online post times can be about 8 minutes on a decent sized post, and when I'm involved in a shooting match / whatever, I just get really disjointed from the experience, waiting for someone to talk about what i've just done. There's a fluidity to vocal action that just beats typing anyday, in my experience.Perhaps thats my fault as a player.
I totally agree with the group size though. Anything over 5 in my opinion stretches the GM incredibly.
