So, on the insistence of spot, and after seeing how empty this section of the forum is, I decided I would post something about my project idea here. I didn't think it would fit into the other sections due to there being a few things needed done for this, so yes.
I said once..somewhere on here, that I planned to make models of mines that would float in the air as opposed to the water for this game I play on occasion (like I haven't mentioned it before!) called Spring.
Now, the plan for these mines would be for them to be flat (I'll upload a screenshot of the rough copy ASAP) and to be able to float at various altitudes, and for some of them to be cloakable. Obviously it will take a good bit of energy resources and the like to manage that in game, so I will either have to learn LUA or find someone who is very good with it to pull this off. But, of course, I have to actually finish making decent textures for the model I've constructed and hammer out the rest of my hopes and wishes for it before I drag someone else in to get started on it.
I'm really interested in eventually taking this and starting up either my own mod for the game (if I can assemble a team to do such) or find an already popular mod (such as the ever growing Complete Annihilation mod) to add this model unit to just to see if it will have some use.
I see it as something useful and even amusing in my mind. Imagine a set of planes flying at you to bomb your base, and they hit something in the air they cannot see and explode, raining down bits of flaming plane bits around your units and Commander. I know I'd get a giggle out of it. :>
I think I'll shut up now and let spot ask his questions, and anyone else that may want to ramble on in here. :x

Is it an MMO or perhaps an RTS? I grow more confused each time I hear your ubermine plan. (This is now the 2nd time it's popped up. )

Through the TASClient (or through something called SpringLobby), you can access a lobby that is just a tiny bit reminiscent of irc and set up games in battle rooms to challenge other users. Like with any other game, we have clans of varying sizes and degree of skill, and there are various mods for Spring (Star Wars, Gundam, 1944, Complete Annihilation, Kernel Panic, P.U.R.E, Balanced Annihilation, Evo, etc etc) for people to play in games that have up to 16 players in them. The mods are made by the players for the most part, as are the maps and now the majority of the units in the mods.
It's actually pretty fun, if you like to play a decent free RTS.
I believe neddiedrow would know a good bit more about how to explain some of the other aspects of Spring than I would though. :>

In fact, I've managed to write an entire temp conversion app in the time I've been waiting... I guess that's something along the lines of a win-win situation. (scenario 1: get it fast, but no work done. Scenario 2: grow a beard in the time I wait, but get one step closer to understanding C++)

You cannot put something in play which there is absolutely no defense for. It shoves team balance off-tilt and becomes a serious problem (ala Mammoth Tank rush) to a point that no one will want to use what you have created.
So tell me how you plan to balance this out.

At the worst; they will be costly and the cost of keeping them cloaked will be great enough that someone wouldn't be able to use too many of them without robbing from everything else. So they most likely won't be usable til later on in the game, when people start bringing out the bigger weapons and the like.
Since cloaking them would be so costly, I figure most of them will be visible, which will give someone a chance to try and fire on them from a distance (probably through FPS view); but then there will be the occasional cloaked one to surprise a view bombers/etc coming in to the person's base.
As far as the coding and such goes though, til I find help/learn it myself, those details are a bit harder to pan out. :>

Here is what they say:
[12:14:50 PM] <KDR_11k> For modding/GUI work or engine-level?
[12:15:28 PM] <[Evo]lurker> units use the bos language
[12:15:35 PM] <KDR_11k> Mechanics suggests game mechanics, i.e. LuaRules
[12:15:37 PM] <[Evo]lurker> a lot can be lua
[12:15:49 PM] <[Evo]lurker> but almost everything game wise is in cpp

Other than that, she tends to be nice, I hear. The only problem is that ӝthehalcyon doesn't know that awful much about PHP. I asked her on your behalf, tho, and she said to tell you:

The best thing to do for a new person is to download the single player (http://spring-portal.com/index.php/docman/doc_download/232-springsp-v09), and then grab up a few AI and try one out (http://spring.jobjol.nl/files.php?subcategory_id=3), and just play around on various mods until you get the hang of it.
The main site that hosted the maps and mods is now gone, but in the topic of #main in the lobby, there are a ton of sites listed that have them. Just look in the battleroom list at the bottom of the screen and you'll see the popular things to play. :>
My name on there currently is [SBFS]Sangue[CA].

Well, the SP goes in the main Spring folder so it will be with the Spring file and such. The AI go into the AI Bot-Libs folder, and the maps and mods go into their own seperate folders.
It's actually easier to explain to people by just dragging them into the lobby and making them play a 1 on 1 game with me so I can show them things. >:

I sent a copy of the battleroom's unitsync files to the SP folder, but it didn't like that either. IDK....

I didn't have SP in a folder, I had it in C:\Spring directly. unitsync.dll and unitsync.cpp are in that folder as well, and it works fine for me.
