Well, my grandparents got me game boys when I was young, but my dad was uber against games. When my parents got divorced my mom immediately hlped us buy a 64, but I still wasn't a big gamer at that point. Then my mom bought a ps2 so we'd have something to do and a dvd player. Then I bought a gamecube and started really getting into gaming, and finally our xbox brought me fully in.---

Kind of but not really. He loves flights sim games, but he doesn't have time to play them anymore. And he has a point kind of, I mean I've wasted so much of my life playing games. At least I enjoyed every minute of it.---

Never Played Half-Life
I wouldn't say I'm really into gaming, but I grew up with computers. I could change hard drives and knew the difference between a master and a slave drive by the time I was 6 or 7. We always had games, but I didn't like them any more or less than anything else I did to amuse myself.
We've had a Sega Genesis, Gameboys (we had one of the really old brick-sized ones and I think one just before the colors) , N64, Super Nintendo, Playstation, Playstation 2 (actually, I now have two, a super old one and a slim :B), and an xBox. I've probably played more on other people's xBox 360's than I have on the xBox we got (I don't know where it is - my brother took it with him to college).05.30.08 3:48 am -

Worrying is about as effective as chewing gum to solve algebra
I don't recall whether it was GameBoy or MegaDrive first, but that was where it started.
I stayed with GameBoys and PC's until a year or two after the PS One (The blocky one, not the one that looks like a toilet seat). I wasn't heavily into games at this point, more interested in the hardware. Then it all went down hill with the PS, stupid numbers of games, and enough demo discs to build a small house.
I think the PS is where I picked the addiction up, but I've been gaming for damn near most my life, in some form or another.
I still believe in the PC Gaming Master Race, though.---
Keep your eyes peeled for the average gamers.

I go where I please, and I please where I go
My cousin gave me her NES, which would probably explain why it kept freezing all the time. From there it just went downhill, my parents wanted to shelter me from the bloodshed, so it was nintendo all the way as far as consoles are concerned, I think I've owned every Nintendo console and handheld (excluding the design revisions, like the Advance SP and the DS Lite) since the NES and the gameboy colour respectively.
I didn't actually get into PC gaming until about 2002, and even then not really FPS', I had neither the FPS or the bandwidth until last year.06.01.08 5:15 pm-

Ah, I can understand parents protecting their kids from bloodshed when they're younger but when I got older dad would play the bloody games with me.06.01.08 10:23 pm-

My dad was so bad at games, bloody or otherwise, it was pretty much SP for me. That could explain a lot.06.02.08 9:04 am

Played Final Fantasy Games Before FF7
My family won a SNES in one of those call-up competitions, which put me down the path of console gaming. Before that we'd owned this incredibly ancient AMSTRAD PC (which I don't expect anyone to remember). Then we got a hand-me-down IBM from another family. Since then it's been PCs and Nintendos all the way, which goes to show that first impressions last d:06.02.08 3:55 am -

Played Final Fantasy Games Before FF7
I started young. I remember playing a soccer game on the Atari 2600. My parents got us a NES shortly after it came out, and one of the first games I had for it was Final Fantasy.
I've been downhill ever since.

Will still put out for chocolate.
I've been playing video games for as long as I've been able to read (Kindergarden). But that year was also the year I got my first computer, it was a complete piece of shit running Windows 95, but it also served as my first video game capable machine, I played Warcraft 2, and later Starcraft. I lived with my very single father at the time, and we (well really he) spent countless hour attempting to network our computers with a MASSIVE Ide-style cable that we had to run from the master bedroom and mine, sadly it never worked. But sometime later I also got my tiny cheeto-eating fingers upon a SEGA gamegear on which I played massive amounts of Sonic on.---

Dad brought us Atari2600 when I was little and me and my brother loved it. When the thing broke down, there was a period of time I didn't have access to games, which I actually spent outside on the trees.
Then we got a computer and it started all over again. I remember playing Pac-Man, Lion King, Wolfenstein-3D, first Duke Nukem, Jazz Jackrabbit, ...
Later Carmageddon, Need for Speed, then RPGs, for a few years I got caught up with online games, and about a year ago got into shooters again, which is where I stand now

Clicks One Thousand Times Per Minute
The Amiga 500 was in my life from the very beginning, and as my father was into gaming himself, I didn't have many restrictions. James Pond, Zap, Ramparts and Lotus Turbo... Me and my brother couldn't read, and the game titles being english didn't help either, so my father would draw pictures of the games on the floppy disk labels. One of those (Warzone) depicted a man shooting barrels for powerups, which lead to us actually calling the game "Shooting barrels". Kinda sad, as when I now have discovered Amiga emulators, I realize that I don't know the real names of most of the games I used to play >.<
Didn't really get into "traditional" consoles before the N64, but I've always prefered PCs.07.15.08 5:16 pm -

Rushes With Zerg
To be quite honest, I totally forgot how I got into gaming...
I remember being little and playing Mortal Combat on the Windows '95, and when someone else was using the computer I'd pick up the Game Gear and play Sonic for hours (we used to have it plugged into the wall on a battery charger).
I remember getting my first gameboy (it was a pocket) and playing Pokemon for hours on it, then taking my well saved money and getting a N64, stealing my cousin's games (not like they ever used them) and playing those instead of doing homework.
...I guess what caught me the most was finding out that one of my second uncles had a connection to Nintendo, and since his kids never gamed, and he could get hardware and games early, he would get me Japanese versions of games, gameboys and my gamecube early... which was pretty damn amazing. And I guess it grew when I reached out to Sony and Microsoft for things.
So I guess that's kinda normal. The female becomes a game addict by handheld first, then consoles, then PC games.

Never Played Half-Life
You played King's Quest too? I never actually got into them until they released The Mask of Eternity and my mom bought me a deluxe pack of King's Quest I-VII, but I really liked them.
As for what got me into gaming, I don't really remember. My mother bought a NES before she was pregnant with me, and then she passed it on to me and got me a SNES, Sega Genesis...yeah, apart from my Wii she's bought all of my systems for me. She's such an enabler. And she likes to play too.---

I had an Atari 2600 at my Dad's, but since I didn't live there I didn't play it that often. My Mum got me a Playstation about the year it came out, then I bought myself a Playstation 2 when I was 18. I played Unreal Tournament and Half Life on the PC a bit, but I didn't get into PC gaming until a couple of years ago. Now the consoles barely get touched because it's all PC gaming.---

My Dad bought our first PC (Windows 3.1). He had a bunch of freeware/shareware games that I used to play (Slay and Sinksub). I remember playing for hours on a WW2 Combat Simulator called Operation Overlord. It was a bit arcadey, but I loved it
One thing led on to another really. The PC is still my preferred platform

my dad worked for IBM back in the day when they were big, and he brought home this beast of a comp that smelled like burning paper when it was on.black and green monitor. it had a fan that was louder than a car reving it's engine. I played that star trek game and a weird version of tic tac toe vs the computer. the computer beat me a lot, but i was like 4. lol.
oddly, i think the biggest thing that started me into gaming was the fun i had playing around in MSpaint and excel and word... just using computers all my life... and my long time love: freecell---
