Played Final Fantasy Games Before FF7

All this chatter of old games has got me thinking, is it worth obtaining/building an old PC? I'm thinking one that can run DOS, and some flavour of Windows (98 or 2000?) - making it a perfect system for things such as the old Monkey Island games, X-wing Vs TIE Fighter etc.

So, anybody got any ideas on rough specs for this kind of thing? Obviously parts will come from places like eBay...

An old P3, would be my advice. For the sake of Windows, more than DOS. 512mb of RAM should do the trick, maybe 1gb, if you can get it.

Side note: Moving this to Tech Talk, since it's more specs than games :p

Old P3? I think I have an 866 from a Dell sitting in my attic - do you know if the Dells from then could have the CPUs removed?

The question is then, what GPU?

I recently scavenged a P3 (server mind you) out of a Dell. I would expect they're socketed on the home user desktops, too.

        Onboard, old school it!

Or a Matrox of some kind. They're always fun.
