Alrite you pro MMO gamers out there. I'm on a search for *Points to title*.

I grew up with console games, enjoyed a lot of Japanese made games, RPGs most of em.

So I'm looking for an MMO that has:

Story, drama and emotion.(Not guild@raid dramas please -.-)

Basically...its like...ok try to go on a flashback.

Remember when you played a certain RPG...your girl gets kidnapped and you feel just like killing the villain a thousand times? I'm looking for those emotions. When you see Yuna cry, u wanna comfort her. When its time for a boss fight, you sit straight and go full focus. If its the final fight, you give it your all. You see Haseo in rage, you feel the same.

Basically an MMO that has the stories and emotions that you find in console game RPGs like .hack// series, FF, Persona, Ar Tonelico, Tales Series and the like. In other words, similarities in essence, soul and elements.

If you can't comprehend what I'm saying...well sorry my bad. Guess I'm just from another world.

    The Cake Is A Lie

I've never really seen any MMO that has a decent story, since most are player driven.

Guild Wars is story driven (Most really an MMO but that's for another thread), you do pre-set missions generally to advance in the game, The level cap is low so you don't have to grind to advance.

It's also free to play online, and you can team up with NPCs if you don't want to join real players.

Clicks One Thousand Times Per Minute

Well, most MMOs, (all that I've played) don't have much story at all if any. So your out of luck. Since online games are online, they usually are based on player to player interaction, rather than player to game interaction.

Although, you might want to try Final Fantasy XI, its an online game (although its not free), but since it comes from the FF series, it might have some story to it. I suggest looking into it, but I'm not sure about it.

I've played FF XI and it had some major flaws in my eyes.

You get 1 character slot, you have to pay a monthly fee for another.

You don't get to pick the server you want to play on, (You can get a pass for a server from a friend)

If you make a new character it automatically goes on the server you're on.

    Slow gameplay and very grindy.

You can't really do anything solo, yes it defeats the point of an MMO but sometimes it's fun just to play on your own for a bit.

    Shoots Rage-Quitters In The Mouth

EVE Online has emotion - watching your ship get blown up sparks, rage, sorrow, and anger. It has a story as well, if you read the news updates. However, it's all ship based and the style is about as far away from the RPG's you mentioned as you can get. So it's not really an answer...

But for an MMO with an actual story, I hate to say it, but Runescape. The 200+ quests all are story driven, and could incite emotion if you were that type. But Jagex, the producers, went USSR on the players, so that's out of the question. In their defense, they do have a new graphics engine though... Meaning old runescape graphics in full screen with a few more polygons.

Don't forget about the Eve cronicles, the newly released novel and the short stories, most of which are out of game but still pretty deep and involving.

Eve is still my MMO of choice after all these years and i'm still finding new areas to explore and new paths to follow it really can be endless if you want it to be.

That's external reading, not something you discover in game, so to speak. But if you go from that angle, EVE has some of the most in depth storylines of all MMO's.

    Has Seeker Sticky Grenades

I have heard a lot of good things about phantasy star universe. I haven't played it myself, but i know it has a single player campaign so it has a story, and it also has a multiplayer: mmo style for a monthly fee. Like I already stated I can't say how good it is, but from what I've heard, it's worth a look.
I'm not sure what consoles it is available on, but I know it is at least out for the 360.

    The Cake Is A Lie

    It's on 360 (stand alone)

Ps2 and PC can play together.

I found it horrible and way to grindy, and you use 2 buttons for combat (If you're a force you get to use 4).

The service of the servers is sub par and the game (360 version) is barely populated.

I wanted to like this game since I spent nearly 6 years of nothing but Phantasy Star Online, but alas I just couldn't enjoy PSU.
